Waze: Way to go

Waze: Way to go

The Waze iPhone app debuted to the App Store this week giving drivers a new tool to tackle the road with. It allows you to pull up real time traffic reports, check traffic speeds, and watch out for time-sucking accidents. In addition, it provides turn-by-turn directions, which means, yes that’s right – forget the expensive Tom Tom or Garmin. We here at iPhone App Design are city dwellers and use Hop Stop extensively. So if anyone is a regular driver and wants to test it out, please do us a favor and contact us.

P.S, another app to check out is Trapster. Shhh. You didn’t hear it from us.

Evernote for iPhone

Evernote is a beautiful system for “Remembering Everything”. In essence, Evernote is an iPhone application, desktop application, and browser plugin. It lets you capture anything from the web or daily travels and organizes it for you. It’s a very simple way to keep track of your project notes, photographs, and clippings from the web.

The best thing about Evernote is that if you have a laptop, desktop, office computer and iPhone, it syncs all of them automatically. I only wish I could find something to organize my firefox and google chrome bookmarks across multiple machines!

Convertbot by Tapbots

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to highlight an iPhone app that is seriously well designed. Checkout Covertbot by Tapbots – a two man team that has put out a couple different apps (convertbot & weightbot). This app does what you would expect it to – it converts various units of data into other units of data – but it does so in a sleek, fun to use interface. It is obvious that the designer and developer worked closely together to keep the design pixel-perfect and tight, preserving all of the subtle gradients, bevels and shadows. Additionally, this app has fantastic transitions.

Remember, even when designing the smallest of apps, Apple and users love to reward thoughtful, great design. As one person said to me, “I bought it just because of the design”. And so did I.
